Skin Color and Character
I am aware of the debate going on for several years now about a “post racial” age, I don’t know if we will ever get to see that in our lives. I see no harm in recognizing races for what they are, a way for us to know where we come from, a way to introduce ourselves, but should race be the only characteristic used to define ourselves or others?

Looking for the Answer
I have been pondering about this verse in Quran (2:30) this morning وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَنْ يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ (البقرۃ ۳۰) Translation : And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: […]
Real Stimulus
I have been thinking about the economy lately, how it is declining every passing day. The overall sentiment is pessimistic, people are losing jobs, those who still have jobs are holding back from spending because they are afraid they may lose their jobs, but it is having a ripple effect on rest of the economy, […]
Wars – Are they worth it?
I have been thinking about it for quite sometime, that how much tendency we humans have to solve disputes and problems through military force, although being among “best of the creations” we have the capacity to rise above such means and use rationale, compassion and love in solving our problems. Last week an article in […]
Faith and Politics
I’ve been watching with deep interest, the accusations from political opponents of Senator Barack Obama that he is a covert Muslim and off course his denials that he is not. Last night I even watched an interview by Senator Hillary Clinton, where she also expressed her confidence that Senator Obama is not a Muslim, as she believes whatever he is saying about his faith.
Happiness
I read a beautiful quote some where “Happiness is not about having what you love, but about loving what you have”. Reading a New York Times article this week prompted me to think about this quote again. That article is about those among us who consider themselves Perfectionists and talks in detail about how at […]
Trees and Gratitude
I was recently at a spiritual retreat offered by Threshold Society at Garrison, NY. The theme of the retreat was “Living from the Heart”. It was quite enlightening and heart awakening experience. I met some wonderful people who came from different cultural and religious backgrounds, but are all on their quest for finding the way […]
